Julie Parker

I’m an artist and illustrator with a background in advertising and graphic design. I was born in Boston and spent most of my career in New York as a designer and brand developer for everything from handbags to shampoo bottles. I’ve worked with Target, Nordstrom, Sephora and Pottery Barn and designed a tote for MoMA’s Design Store. My early tools of the trade were exploding rapidographs, gelatinous rubber cement and toxic Bestine thinner. Then I spent a million hours in front of a Mac. Now I float between drawing on my iPad and rediscovering how much I love graphite and paint, although I often find choosing a drawing surface a challenge.

I studied painting and drawing in the early 70’s at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and attended Milton Glaser’s Wednesday night design classes. Ideas and inspiration come from everywhere . . . the patterns of Sonia Delaunay, the cartoony paintings of Joan Brown, the brilliant cartoony cartoons of Roz Chast and Saul Steinberg and the paintings and storytelling of Maira Kalman.

Please check back as I will be telling some stories here.
